An escaped prisoner surrendered himself to a police station because of the strick inspection during coronavirus outbreak.

The CCTV video, shot in the city of Xiamen in southern China's Fujian Province on February 15, shows a man with a bag of belonging walking into a police station to surrender himself.

According to reports, the man named Zhang was sentenced to prison for nine years because of robbing with powder shotgun, bombs and knife.

However, he escaped the prison in October 2000 when he got a chance to work outdoor and absconded 20 years.

Due to COVID-19 outbreak, police tightened the inspection of factories, hotels, rental houses and etc.

Since Zhang did not have an ID, he could not find a job or a place to settle down.

After running out of all his money and living outdoor for half a month, Zhang carried all his belongings to surrender himself to the police station.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, 27 escapees were caught and four of them surrendered themselves to the police station, reports said.
