For the second year ... the la crosse community foundation is taking part in giving tuesday.
The foundation matched donations from local donors to several non- profits in our area.
News 8's tyler job is here to tell us which nonprofits the foundation surprised today.
Mike ... several weeks ago ... the la crosse community foundation announced it will match the first 20 donations of at least 500 dollars to any of the donor's favorite charities.
All of the donors are people from our area.
And today ... everything came together for the selected donors and the nonprofits.
"i feel good about where my money is going."
Dyanne brudos- thornton has been a donor to the terry erickson boys and girls club for over 20 years.
"for a lot of kids, the club is their home.
And how else do you give back better than by giving your support to help the entire community that way?"
For brudos- thornton, the club means a lot to her.
"it's just been a great thing for me to watch my kids grow up here."
This is the second year the la crosse community foundation is participating for giving tuesday.
"all of these organizatio ns rely on generosity of individuals to be able to serve who they do."
But the boys and girls club is just one stop for the la crosse community foundation.
"we are visiting a total of 16 organizations to deliver surprise gifts."
Including a group called black leaders acquiring collective knowledge, or black.
The nonprofit got a $1,000 check.
"it was really a surprise.
And so, that was cool.
It was a good thing.
And the money definitely will go to some good use."
It's goal is to improve the african- american community locally.
"across generations , across income gaps and all those different things to truly get black folks to recognize that if we empower each other, we can do great things together."
Next stop: the children's museum.
Nats weeee "the support from the community foundation really tells us that we're doing something right."
They too, got $1,000.
"it takes a lot to heat and cool 30,000 square feet, and ensure 30,000 square feet."
Something that will go a long way to keep the kids happy.
"oh, they just love it, because they think they're just playing, they don't realize they're learning."
And even though brudos- thornton's kids are now adults... "i have no plans to stop soon."
Schloegel also told me that it took only 18 hours for the first 20 people to donate so which nonprofit got the biggest donation?
The boys and girls club got the most.
Four people donated 500- dollars to the club ... which the foundation matched making it a four- thousand dollar check.
